The children have been enjoying the story The Elves and the Shoemaker, which inspired lots of imaginative play. Our home corner was transformed into a shoe shop, where the children loved role-playing, fitting shoes for customers and boxing them up to take away. The story was linked to our UNICEF project – The Rights Respecting Schools Award. We connected the story to the important right to wear clothes and shoes to keep us warm and safe.
We also celebrated Bonfire Night by learning new firework songs and creating colourful firework crafts, exploring different colours, sounds and actions. As we moved closer to Christmas, the children got busy writing and posting letters to Santa, learning festive songs and helping to decorate the home corner to look cosy and Christmassy. We have had a great Autumn term and we can’t wait to find out what adventures the New Year will bring.
